Why Preeti text looks like English letters

Preeti was made before computers handled Nepali. It is a font that draws Nepali letters on the keys of an English keyboard: the key g draws न, ] draws े, and so on. The text itself is stored as those English keys, so it only looks Nepali while the Preeti font is selected — on a phone, a website or in a search it shows as g]kfn instead of नेपाल. Unicode stores the real letters, so it works everywhere.
